EME 2040 Reflection 3

There are three kinds of lesson plans which are the behaviorist, the transpersonal and lastly the constructivist lesson plan. The one I am going to explain in more detail is the constructivist lesson plan. This lesson plan has been modified since the day it was created about now they have it right. This kind of lesson plan is to keep the student engaged. The student is involved and is the source of information. This means all the information will come from the student’s in classroom. This constructivist learning design has six steps. To start off with you have the situation, this is where the teacher must tell the student what their topic is. The teacher may say sexual harassment with that in mind you go to the next step. Which is grouping here the students must break into groups of 3 or four one technique you may use it go down the class and say one, two, three, and four. All the ones are a group all the two’s are a group etc. After they are all in different parts in the class room with their groups you can go to the next step which is bridge. In the bridge the students sit together and share what they know about the topic.

They might want to share personal stories, maybe things they have seen on television or maybe even things they have learned from parents. Then the teacher will ask questions which is the next step here the teacher will ask them questions to see what they are learning. And questions that might start up a conversation to see what else they might know. The fifth step is exhibit, which is where the students explain to the class room what they know and have learned. The students in the group might want to do a skit, or get something out of the internet maybe a video clip. Something that will teach those students that were not in their group. It will be just them showing their knowledge to each other. The last step in this lesson plan is reflections, in reflections the student will go back and find out what they all ready knew and what they learned. The teacher may ask questions to see what stuck with them. What they will remember tomorrow after the lesson is over. This is one of the most effective lesson plans that I have seen. The students get to teach each other from their own experiences. Personally I have seen that when you teach someone something it tends to stick with you longer. It is a great way to see where you need to start and where the student needs to get. The constructivist lesson plan is a group effort everyone gets involved and no one gets left behind.

EME 2040 Reflection 2

The behaviorist and Constructive Lesson plans are the same in their purpose. This is, to try and find a strategy to give a class and it be effective. Their purpose might be the same but their format is very different. The behaviorist lesson plan which was created by Madeline Hunter has eight steps. The first step is the purpose and objective it speaks about what the child will be learning and how would it be measure. The second step is the anticipatory set here you decide how you are going to get here attention. Third is the input here talks about what the child will be learning for example the vocabulary words, etc. Fourth, the modeling in others words the show here you show them visually what they are learning it could be a YouTube video for instance. Fifth is guided practice which is follow me which is the teacher. The teacher will guide the student step by step of what is needed the teacher is the source of the information. Sixth is CFU which stands for checking for understanding. The teacher asks the student several questions to find out if the student understands the lesson plan if not backs up to help. Second to last is independent practice here the student gets to experiment by themselves to see if they fully understand the lesson plan. And lastly is closure, here the teacher may ask questions for the student to him or her what they have learned that way the teacher could close the lesson with a secure mind that every child understood the lesson. Another type of lesson plan is the Constructivist lesson plan which has six steps to it. To begin within this lesson plan the students are more involved in when it comes to like group work. Here they learn from each other rather than in the behaviorist plan which the teacher was the fountain of information. The first step is situation, the teacher give them a problem and the students have to figure it out and show what they know about the situation. The next is grouping; here the teacher explains how they will go into their groups and what materials are needed to complete the assignment. Third is, bridge here each student will share what they know that way they learn from each other. The fourth step is questions, here you ask question to get them talking and see if they are stuck and you get them to ask or answer questions about the situation or problem. Fifth is the exhibit which is for the student to show or tell the classroom what they have learned. For instance you can get one group to come up and do a skit about they have learned about their situation. And the last step is, reflections the student would talk about what they learned and what has stuck and interacted in their minds. Both have the same purpose but just different ways of getting there.

EDF 1005 and EME2040 Haiti Relief

When an earthquake hits it’s unexpected and it brings much devastation. Haiti was hit with a 6.1 earthquake which did much destruction. It killed millions and millions of innocent lives. They have gone through so much that we don’t even understand. What the news shows is not even a part of what is going on. You see in the news of how bad it is well its much worse then that. The people that participated on the event of the Miami Dade North campus relief were amazing. The first thing and foremost that touched my heart, was of a student in my class that her six year old brother named Michael was on of the Haiti tragedies. Her poem was so real and so emotional that she made you feel what she was going through. It was nice to see the music group that performed. They did it with so much motivation that they made you want to get up and dance to enjoy the music with them. The reason that they performed, to send them hope and happiness by the music they played. Their hearts were in the right place that is why there purpose was so right. Just the atmosphere was so nice the people all were there for the right reasons which were to support and help the people in need. The other speaker I enjoyed very much was the man that spoke recited the poem “If Jesus was to come to your home”. It was about if we were ready to let God in lives and not have to hide things. If God could come unannounced and you would not have to run back inside put away some things and change your cloth. It was so nice that I decided to share it with the youth group of my church. The youth really liked it many others asked me for the name to be able to share it with family and friends. It showed me that you never know what can happen throughout your day. So you always have to be ready and well prepared. By that I mean spiritually. The fact of the matter is that it was great to see how people from our campus got together and worked towards on goal. Which, was to raise any support for the people in Haiti and any funds to be able to help the people over there with any money or items. I just would like to encourage others to get united and do these kinds of events. It brings people together for one great cause. I hope that every in this event plated a seed and has help out by other ways by sending food or cloth.

EDF 1005 Reflection 6

The invention of writing was very crucial to the establishment of the world’s great ancient civilizations. It was another way to keep their ancestors, stories and history alive. First, was cuneiform which is a type of picture writing. It was a way for them to communicate and some people say that writing was first invented to keep track of beer. But they decided to say that it was just a part of it. Before cuneiform they tried to invent writing about three other times before. And it never stuck people just gave up. Writing was a huge part of the change that has happened. It was used to keep track of products and agriculture. It was great to have this because if you had to go to war or something you could leave a letter or something in writing to a love one to keep you in memory. It can be for them to have a token for them to remember you. You could keep a written track of what you own or what you have traded. Many people used it to write in caves. They would write stories, wise quotes and even traditions that had happened. One thing that was great was that they wrote their pharos names and through that we have been able to understand history all the back then. The written time of information has been the most valuable kind of information. Because archeologists don’t have to make assumptions and can have the straight facts. That is great to the fact that people don’t make mistakes. For instance, if an archeologist found a certain tablet they would not have to guess what it was for because it would be written on the tablet. In the other hand if they found a skull they would have to gather other facts and guess what is for. And there is always space for error when that happens. Writing has solved many problems for many things. Now in time there is no her said she said in court. You can simple write the arrangement that was made. That way when you ever have to go to court you will have everything clear. If it is the paper signed by both parties you can see what needed to be done. And which ever party does not keep the arrangement then you have proof to defend yourself and not be held responsible. Writing has helped people from the start of time to the present time. It keeps many things in line and organized in the way it needs to be.

EDF 1005 Reflection 5

Every culture has some kind of initiation rites or rites of passage ceremony. For example in the Latin culture we have the fifth teen which is called “la quinceanera”. This is a ceremony where a young girl becomes a woman. You have a huge party and celebrate the birthday girl for what she has become and what she has to offer the world. For instance the story named “Sitting quietly reveals crocodile’s tricks. Flumo and Kona had to go and fight the Forest Thing. This was there initiation to become man and be part of the Kpelle world. Which were the real men of their tribe in Yanga. This proved that they were able to protect and care for their tribe under any circumstances. All these kind of initiation rites and rites of passage ceremonies have to do with teaching and learning. You can use this kind of teaching in a classroom setting to show students how to have morals and respect. It depends what your lesson is on. Every initiation has to do with you learning or teaching someone something. In a fifth teen the parents do the teaching which is that now they have to grow up. The choices they make from now will effect what happens to them in the future.

For instance, you are now able to get pregnant the thing is that f you do now you have to stop your life and live for your child. That means no more parties, friends or hanging out. Now you are responsible not only for your life but for an others also. And the learning part is the birth day person that when his or her parents tell them about their experience. They need to learn from them and not commit the same mistakes their parents have. In my personal belief these kinds of rites of passage ceremonies are a big part of a person. When I had my sweet fifth teens it was a moment in life that I knew my mentality had to change. I had to grow up and I knew that from that moment on that I was my own person. That any decision I make and any action I took it was going to define who I was as a person. When my parts shared with me their stories and past history I really took it in and learned the things they had done. I want to learn from their mistakes and not have to go through the same headaches and troubles that they had to endure. I have spoken to a few people about their personal initiation and they have said that it was a day that they have never forgotten. It was something that they looked forward to and has made them the person they are today. Initiation rites and rites of passage ceremonies are something that has been going on since the beginning of time and still undergo in what many people call modern time. Has been there and always will.

EDF 1005 Reflection 4

The articles named Early Human Phylogeny, Hominids, The story of Lucy and African Eve are very interesting. They are articles written to show us about how we as humans have evolved. All the adaptations and changes we have gone through. As many know we come from the apes the first evolution from apes was Australopithecus afarensis which was just the size of an ape just with the pelvic bone up that way that human form may walk upright. After, were the Australopithecus robustus they lived about 3 million years ago. Then was the first actual human forms called Homo habilis the men were much larger than the women. And that is how they find out if it is a male or female by the size of the skull. The women’s skull was much smaller next to the male skull. They were very handy they made their tools from rocks. They would sharpen them to be able to hunt build homes and protect their families and themselves from other animals in their surroundings. The Homo erectus was the ones that discovered fire and started working with it. Because they could control fire that is the reason they started to migrate. That means humans started spreading around the world in this time. The last three types of species all lived together at one point in time, they all coexisted. The next species that was adapted was the Homo sapiens which were also referred to as “Neanderthal Man”. They lived in both cold and warm weathers. They were twice our size so you can see that they had great strength but they did not speak much because their brains were much smaller. One of the last one was the Homo sapiens sapiens. Their tools were more sophisticated and more elaborate. They made cloth by sewing with needles made by bones and made jewelry by bones and other things that they gathered. They did cave art which was their storytelling. For example, we write books and novels to be able to keep our history and culture alive they wrote in their caves and called it art cave. To be able to keep their stories, legends and ancestors alive. These caves helped archeologist figure out their customs and many rituals that they did. They also made statue of themselves made from tree trunks of how they saw themselves. That helped us to see how they really looked like and make sure that we did not make any unreal assumptions. I learned were we actually come from and all the eras and changes us humans have under gone. It amazing me to see how far we have come and everything that we accomplished. To have one time had lived in caves and now many live in villas and mansions. It also shows us how everyone is so well connected.

EDF 1005 Reflection 3

My school was multicultural we had all kind of races. We would celebrate for example black and Hispanic month. And be tough about the ethnic heroes of history. I would have to say that I grew up in the contributions approach. This is when they change the curriculum around to show the ethnic heroes and cultural artifacts. To learn what each cultural has done and learn to respect and appreciate everyone. The second type of approach is the additive approach. This type gives content, themes of contributions without changing the structure already in place.
The third one is the transformation approach that gives students the basics to get into other ethnic perspectives and point of views to be able to view concepts, problems and issues from someone else’s shoes. If I went back to my elementary and secondary school I would like my teachers to use the social action approach. The social approach is all of the transformation approach plus gives the student the tools to make and take actions about their own decisions and make a proper one at that. The main reason I like it is because you can use this in your everyday life. If a student is going to be someone successful and well respected. He or she needs to understand that not everything is black and white that there is also gray.
Due to the fact, when the government for example makes a decision they have to look at all cultures and religions and with that make a proper decision. With the social action approach it gives students a hand up in making political decisions that will affect many people. It teaches decision making which is an attribute that jobs look at and life time tool that is always used in any situation. The social approach I believe truly prepares a student for a life after elementary and secondary school.

EDF 1005 Three Stories

Biker, Hellrider
I understand where a biker might be a hell rider. Due to the reputation, which they carry for being the bad and rough guys. But, I ride bikes with my friends and it is just a stress reliever. All the wind in your face it feels as if your problems and troubles are not there. It is a moment that you feel free and just get to live for that moment. The picture looks as if the rider is so overwhelm and is just coming out and leaving to find somewhere to collect himself.

The Womb
I see a delicate flower coming out of something so ugly. The womb to me is a mother in pain because she is excited of her first born. And everyone around her seems to be so upset with this pregnancy. They don’t want the child to be born. But the mother knows that she is carrying something precious that has been given straight from God. And that her child has a plan and will grow into a delicate flower.

The Jawbone
I do agree with poem. Mary was visited by angel to tell her that she was going to give birth to the savior of this world. That he was going to die and give us eternal life if we just believed and followed him in truth and spirit. And I believe the jawbone is the people that don’t believe and will one day will die spiritually because they don’t believe in God lord and savior. And Samson was not strong because of his hair when he cut his hair his strength was taken away because of his disobedience towards God. And that is the same way with us if we do not listen to God and follow his commandments he will close doors that are of great opportunities.

EME 2040 Three Stories

Coyote
This is an animal that many people do not understand its way of thought. The main thing that I like is that it may not really care for it'a actions or what happens. But it still is smooth when it needs to and never gives up. I see as it does not take things serious but still strong when it is needed.

Bat
The bat is an animal that is aware of its surrounding. It can hear echoes from sounds that bounce of objects. But at the same time runs into things because there is too much going on. It is an animal that is aware of everything around but is sometimes overwhelm and cannot handle the since of pressure. The Picture look as if it is coming out of the back item all confused and evil and mad.

Two gnomes dance the celebratory hopaky
The pictures show the two gnomes enjoying themselves no matter what is going on. Which I believe the picture behind represents that. They don’t want to get involved in the political view. But I think they are very much in tune with themselves to be ok with their man hood. There are level headed enough to not care what people say and go to their own beat.

EME 2040 Reflection 1

A lesson plan an organized way to get your information and ideas in order to teach in a class setting. It gives you the proper form that one should execute information to students and not overwhelm them by jumping in and out of information. There are three kind of lesson plan that cover any kind of topic or lesson that one wants to must give their students. These are three kinds these are three kinds 6of lesson plans the Behaviorist, Constructivist, Transpersonal Lesson Plan. The Behaviorist lesson plan is created by Madeline Hunter. This plan has eight steps which are purpose/objective, anticipatory set, input, modeling, and guided practice, checking for understanding, independent practice, and closure. This is a kind of outline that gets all points checked to makes sure the teacher gets the students attention before the lesson begins. It show it to them by pictures or any hands on item, then by you speaking and then at the ends makes sure the student had everything clear and transparent.
The second kind of lesson plan is the Constructivist lesson plan. George W. Gagnon, Jr. and Michelle Collay are the creators of this lesson plan but it has been changed a lot from the time it was created. It has six steps which are situation, groupings, bridge, questions, exhibit, and reflections. In this lesson plan the teacher must find out the information the child has known prior to the class and know which tools they must use to get this information. The class works more in a group type of environment for this kind of lesson plan. At the end the teacher ask the students to show her how they understand the lesson plan. Maybe by doing something in groups and her visually seeing that they understood the lesson plan. In the last and final lesson plan called the transpersonal lesson plan. It is more about the student individually. It can follow the outline of the other two lesson plans but it focuses more on the “who am I” of things. It shows how the child presents, communicates, and understands.

EDF 1005 Reflection 2

The Reading "Frames, Paradigms and Paradigm Shifts" is about how people conserve, react and process things. Schema is the way the mind lays out and organizes what is coming in. In this process framing is one of the things that occur which helps to get the information and finds a short cut. Of course as humans we make assumptions which sometimes are not so great. So we have to reframe many times. For example, when we might come up with certain steps to get to a restaurant faster. Then a friend comes and shows us an easier path our minds have to reframe and correct that information in the brain. When people where referred to as Homo Habilis their mines were not fully developed. Due to the fact, that they really did not have to think as much. All they knew was that they had to find somewhere to sleep they lived on the soil and in the dark. In later generations they started to create weapons to hunt and tools they no longer used digging sticks. No they were not as advanced as now but they surly were an upgrade to digging sticks. This made them think a lot more and that is the only way to fully start developing a brain. This made them exercise their minds and get it functioning. Without these prior inventions people’s minds would not have started working. With that said we would not have the technology and equipment we have today. Because they started to process ideas and find frames which is information that helps you understand a scene. And, with frames it helps figure out ways to do things in a shorter amount of time. I do agree with this article because the mind is just like a muscle if you do not exercise it, it will never grow and get stronger. It is just as a child you have to let them fall and get back up and try to walk if not they will never learn. A child has to keep on doing this for the brain to process it and be able to understand what to do in the walking process. Just like everything else you have to work it to develop it.

EDF 1005 Reflection 1

In colonial times teaching was taught by teaching them the subject then the matter, and having one on one time experience with students. These practices are still done today there are alternative teaching. Which are that they expect that college graduates know there material they can take fundamentals to teaching and start to teach. On the next year he in enrolls into university level courses and then will be licensed to teach. Every state has a ready to teach program and that is how many of them work. There is a huge controversy about Teach for America this is a program that you are placed in rural poor area to teach. In other words you swim or sink. Some people say this program is great because it gives collage graduates a chance to see what it is really like to teach. After a year or two see if you are fit to be teacher. Others say that it is an outrage, it is crazy to but students in this situation because the ones that come out affected are the students not the teachers. And after two years many of them don’t want to teach anymore. All they are doing is wasting money and time in the long run. Teachers that have been in TFA say that a few things have to be fixed. To begin with, not to leave the teacher just floating rather to help them every step of the way. And also give them more training and not just throw them in and expect them to do great. The reform efforts of the 1980s took place because there was no money for the expectations that school boards had for schools. The schools had no money to teach or even to pay extra teachers. There were not many books for the amount of students. They had to bring down their expectations due to the fact of economic facts. Schools and teachers were not able to live up to the standards that were expected from them.
